Volunteer

Give an afternoon, feed a neighbourhood

Almost everything we do is volunteer-run. No experience needed — we will show you what to do when you arrive.

Open shifts

Coming soon: published volunteer shifts

Once the volunteer coordinator publishes shifts in the back office, they appear here automatically and people can sign themselves up — no phone tree, no spreadsheet. In the meantime, call (562) 708-5025.

What volunteers do

  • Sort and pack

Check dates, sort donations into categories, and build grocery bags for families.

  • Distribution day

Set up tables, hand out food, help people to their cars, break down at the end.

  • Driving

Collect donations, move food between sites, and deliver to households who cannot travel.

  • Welcome and intake

Greet people arriving, help with the short intake form, and answer questions.

Some roles — anything working directly with families, or handling food in certain programmes — need a background check or a food handler card. We will tell you clearly before your first shift if a role needs one, and we help you get it.
